NYC MetroCard Bonus Calculator

This calculator is for the new fares which went into effect with a fare hike on Sunday March 2, 2008 at 12:01 a.m. See this MTA Web page for more information on fares and grace periods on old cards.

With the new pay-per-ride fare structure it has become a lot easier for your MetroCard balance to get out of whack. There is a bonus of 15% when adding $7 or more.

Press the Calculate button to see how much you should put on an new MetroCard in order to come up with an even balance that is divisible by your target fare. Or, input the actual balance on your card in order to figure out how to get an uneven total back on track.

Note that MetroCard Vending Machines (MVMs) will only allow you to add amounts that are multiples of 5 cents. Also keep in mind that you can split any amount to add over two or more refillings (as long as you add $7 or more each time).
